Map of Iran and Middle East highlighting ongoing conflict and ceasefire discussionsIran has called for a guaranteed and permanent ceasefire, rejecting temporary truce proposals as diplomatic efforts continue through mediators like Pakistan, Turkey, and Egypt.

Iran has demanded a guaranteed and permanent ceasefire as a precondition to end the ongoing conflict, rejecting short-term or temporary truce proposals, according to a senior Iranian source quoted by Reuters. The source said intermediaries from countries such as Pakistan, Turkey, and Egypt had recently contacted Tehran to continue diplomatic efforts but emphasised that Iran is not willing to engage in negotiations focused on temporary ceasefires, including a reported 48-hour ceasefire proposal, and instead seeks firm, long-term assurances to end hostilities completely.

The development comes amid rising tensions in the region and stalled mediation attempts, including a U.S.-backed 48-hour ceasefire proposal, which Iran has not accepted in its current form. Iran’s stance reflects its demand for broader security guarantees and a comprehensive resolution, signalling that any agreement must go beyond short pauses in fighting and address underlying issues to ensure lasting peace and regional stability.
