The Himachal Pradesh government has decided to increase the retirement age of professors in government medical colleges to 65 years. The move comes as the state is facing a shortage of experienced faculty in its medical institutions.
The decision, announced by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, will be implemented for the next three years. It is expected to help retain senior doctors and improve the quality of medical education.
Officials said the move will not affect promotion opportunities for younger faculty. At the same time, the government is also working to fill vacant posts and improve staffing across medical colleges.
The state is also expanding postgraduate medical seats in several institutions, which is likely to strengthen both education and healthcare services in the long run.
