Nashik, April 25:
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday launched the ‘Godavari to Narmada’ Water Journey initiative, blending cultural heritage with a strong message on water conservation.

The programme, organised by the state’s Water Resources Department, also marked the 300th birth anniversary of Ahilyabai Holkar, remembered for her visionary work in governance and water management.

Speaking at the event, Fadnavis described Ahilyabai as a model ruler whose efforts ensured that regions did not suffer from water scarcity. He said her legacy continues to inspire modern initiatives aimed at sustainable development and water conservation.

The Chief Minister stressed that the ‘Jalyatra’ (water journey) is not just symbolic but intended to create awareness among people about the importance of saving water and adopting modern conservation techniques. He added that such efforts can unite communities while addressing long-term water challenges.

As part of the initiative, a Kalash Pujan ceremony was performed using water collected from multiple rivers, highlighting the cultural and spiritual connection with water. The journey began from Chondi, the birthplace of Ahilyabai Holkar, and will conclude at Shirdi, passing through several regions along the way.

Fadnavis also reiterated the government’s commitment to ongoing water conservation projects and announced plans to ensure a “clean and uninterrupted flow of the Godavari river” in the future.

The event saw the presence of several leaders and dignitaries, reflecting the government’s broader push to combine heritage, development, and environmental responsibility in its policy approach.
