SUMAN Scheme
Umbrella scheme combining JSSK, PMSMA, and LaQshya under one platform. Guarantees free, dignified, respectful maternal and newborn healthcare with zero tolerance for denial of services at any public health facility. Covers pregnant women, newborns (0–6 months), and lactating mothers up to 6 months post-delivery.

Janani Suraksha Yojana
Cash transfer scheme under the National Health Mission to promote institutional deliveries, especially among poor and marginalised women. ASHA workers act as the key link between beneficiaries and the scheme. Has benefitted over 11 crore women as of 2025.

Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram
Entitles every pregnant woman delivering in a government hospital to completely free, cashless care — including delivery, medicines, diagnostics, food, and transport. Expanded in 2013 to cover postnatal complications up to 42 days post-delivery and sick infants up to 1 year. Over 16.6 crore beneficiaries served since 2014–15.

PM Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan

LaQshya Programme
Targets quality improvement in labour rooms and maternity OTs at government hospitals. Facilities are assessed and certified (Platinum/Gold/Silver) under National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS). Ensures mothers receive respectful, skilled, safe care during delivery and immediate postpartum.

Midwifery Initiative
Establishes a cadre of certified Nurse Practitioners in Midwifery (NPMs) trained to ICM (International Confederation of Midwives) standards. Aims to provide midwifery-led, women-centred, respectful care — promoting natural birthing and reducing unnecessary medical interventions. Training provided at NMTIs and SMTIs.

Postnatal Care Initiative
Launched after the January 2023 Chief Secretaries’ Conference to sharpen postnatal surveillance and reduce maternal mortality in the weeks after delivery. Focuses on home visits by ASHAs, early detection of danger signs, and financial incentivisation of ASHAs for tracking high-risk postpartum mothers.
