Telangana to Provide ₹5 Lakh Cover to 1.15 Crore Families from June 2026
The Telangana government has announced the Indiramma Family Life Insurance Scheme in its 2026–27 budget, aiming to provide financial security to families across the state. Unveiled by Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, the scheme will offer a life insurance cover of ₹5 lakh to around 1.15 crore families and is scheduled for rollout from June 2, 2026. Positioned as a universal welfare measure, it is intended to cover all sections of society without discrimination, creating a broad social safety net for households.
The initiative focuses on protecting families from financial distress caused by the sudden death of an earning member, ensuring a guaranteed payout to prevent them from slipping into poverty. The government has reportedly conducted a socio-economic survey to identify eligible beneficiaries and earmarked significant budgetary support for its implementation. Seen as a key step in Telangana’s welfare-driven governance, the scheme aims to strengthen social security and ensure dignity and stability for vulnerable families across the state.
