The Maharashtra government signed 67 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth ₹8,57,452 crore at the Maharashtra Investment Summit on October 1, 2026, in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. According to the state’s information department (DGIPR), the proposed projects are expected to create 2,91,109 jobs. Data centres, IT and semiconductors lead the list.

Note: these are proposed investments and projected jobs, not money already invested or people already hired. The job figure is the state government’s estimate.

What was announced

The MoUs were signed with 65 companies at the launch of ‘Invest Maharashtra’, a new platform meant to be a single point for investment promotion and facilitation. The state says it will coordinate land, power, infrastructure, approvals and skilled manpower for investors. Fadnavis said the deals reflect growing confidence in Maharashtra as a destination for investment, innovation and industry.

Data centres, IT and semiconductors take nearly half

Data centres, IT and semiconductors account for ₹4,15,490 crore, about 48 percent of the total. Here is the full sector breakdown from DGIPR:

SectorProposed investment
Data centres, IT and semiconductors₹4,15,490 crore
Other / miscellaneous sectors₹1,82,810 crore
Energy, cleantech, renewables, battery storage, compressed biogas₹1,02,519 crore
Metals and mining₹75,000 crore
Space and defence₹27,930 crore
Infrastructure, logistics, construction materials₹18,751 crore
Electronics₹12,651 crore
Chemicals, agriculture, services and GCCs₹8,801 crore
Steel production₹7,000 crore
Health₹6,500 crore

Aerospace and defence, and energy and cleantech, have 10 MoUs each. The state has not itemised what falls under “other / miscellaneous”, which is the second-largest category.

The biggest proposals

Media reports name the largest proposals in the data centre, IT and semiconductor segment:

  • Akshat Greentech: ₹1 lakh crore, the largest single proposal, across Navi Mumbai and Pune (data centres, IT-enabled services and semiconductor-related projects)
  • Sterlite Group: ₹84,500 crore
  • ReNew: ₹70,000 crore
  • Cortex Data Centres: ₹60,990 crore
  • Pi-Semicon: ₹40,000 crore, for a semiconductor facility in Nashik

Other reported proposals include a data centre by Astracity in Ratnagiri and metals and mining projects by Shyam Metalics and Energy in Chandrapur. These names are not a complete list of the 65 companies.

What an MoU means

An MoU signals intent. It is not a completed investment, and how many convert to real projects varies. In January, Fadnavis claimed that 75 percent of the investment pledged at the previous year’s Davos summit has materialised on the ground. That is the state’s own claim and has not been independently checked here.

For context, Maharashtra’s January 2026 Davos round was larger. It secured ₹14.5 lakh crore in MoUs on the first day alone.

What to watch next

  • Land allotment and power supply for the data centre and semiconductor projects
  • What sits in the ₹1.83 lakh crore “miscellaneous” category
  • How many MoUs become approved, funded projects, and when
  • Where the 2.91 lakh jobs will be created, and how many are direct versus indirect

Key takeaways

  • 67 MoUs, 65 companies, ₹8,57,452 crore proposed
  • 2,91,109 projected jobs (state estimate)
  • Data centres, IT and semiconductors: ₹4,15,490 crore, nearly half
  • Energy and cleantech: ₹1,02,519 crore
  • These are proposals, not completed investment
