Why Delhi’s Pollution is Worse Than Other Cities
Delhi has four unique disadvantages:
1) Geography – Delhi is a “bowl.”
Wind cannot disperse pollutants because Delhi is surrounded by land on all sides. Whatever enters the air stays trapped.
2) Stubble Burning in Punjab & Haryana
Every October–November, thousands of farmers burn crop residue. Strong winds carry the smoke to Delhi—but Delhi cannot send it out.
Other states also face smoke, but Delhi gets the maximum concentration.
3) Heavy Vehicular Load
Delhi has more vehicles than Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata combined.
Cars, trucks, and autos—all pump toxic gases into an already trapped atmosphere.
4) Construction + Road Dust
Constant construction, road digging, and poor dust control double the pollution level.
2. Why don’t authorities control VEHICLES?
Because:
- The city depends on private vehicles.
- Public transport is overcrowded and insufficient.
- Odd-Even is temporary, not a permanent solution.
- No strong plan to reduce cars entering Delhi from NCR regions.
REAL solution:
- Heavy tax on second/third vehicles
- Carpooling compulsory
- A better Metro-Bus-Last Mile system
- Restrict entry of polluting trucks
- Electric buses in large numbers
3. Why are INDUSTRIES not closed though they cause pollution?
Because industries = money + votes.
Politicians don’t want to lose revenue or upset industrial groups.
But the truth is harsh:
Nothing is more valuable than human life.
Industries can be shifted. Lives cannot be replaced.
4. The Political Blame Game
Whenever Delhi is choking:
- The central government blames State government
- The state government blames the Centre.
- Both blame Punjab
- Punjab blames farmers
- Farmers blame machinery cost
While they fight…
Delhi citizens breathe poison.

- Strict ban on polluting trucks

ಗಾಳಿ ವಿಷದಂತಾಗುತ್ತದೆ, ಆಕಾಶ ಬೂದು ಬಣ್ಣಕ್ಕೆ ತಿರುಗುತ್ತದೆ, ಮತ್ತು ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಗಳು ಉಸಿರಾಟ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಯ ರೋಗಿಗಳಿಂದ ತುಂಬುತ್ತವೆ.
ಒಂದು ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆ ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ:

ಆದರೆ ದೆಹಲಿ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಕೆಟ್ಟ ಗಾಳಿಯನ್ನು ಉಸಿರಾಡುತ್ತದೆ.
ಕಾರಣ ಒಂದೇ:
ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯ ಪರಿಸರದ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಅಲ್ಲ… ರಾಜಕೀಯದ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಯಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.
1. ದೆಹಲಿಯ ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯ ಇತರ ನಗರಗಳಿಗಿಂತ ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗುವ ಕಾರಣಗಳು
ದೆಹಲಿಯ ಕಪ್ಪು ಗಾಳಿ: ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯವೋ? ರಾಜಕೀಯ ದುರಂತವೋ?
ದೆಹಲಿ ವರ್ಷವೆಲ್ಲಾ ಹೊಗೆಯಿಂದ ಕಂಗೊಳಿಸುವ ನಗರ. ಆದರೆ ಚಳಿಗಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದು ನಿಜಕ್ಕೂ ಜೀವಕ್ಕೆ ಅಪಾಯವಾಗುವ ಮಟ್ಟಕ್ಕೆ ತಲುಪುತ್ತದೆ. ದೇಶದ ಬೇರೆ ನಗರಗಳಲ್ಲೂ ವಾಹನಗಳು, ಕೈಗಾರಿಕೆಗಳು, ಧೂಳು, ವಾಹನಗಳ ಸಂಚಾರ—ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ಇದೆ. ಆದರೆ ದೆಹಲಿ ಮಾತ್ರ ಏಕೆ ಇಷ್ಟು ತೀವ್ರ ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯವನ್ನು ಅನುಭವಿಸುತ್ತದೆ?
ಈ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಗೆ ನೇರ ಉತ್ತರವನ್ನೂ ಕೊಡೋದು ಕಷ್ಟ. ಆದರೆ ತಾಂತ್ರಿಕ ಕಾರಣಗಳ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಕಾರಣಗಳು ಕೂಡ ಈ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಯನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸುತ್ತವೆ ಎಂಬುದು ಸತ್ಯ.
1. ಭೌಗೋಳಿಕ ಸಿಲುಕಾಟ—ದೆಹಲಿ ಒಂದು “ಬೋಲ್”
ದೆಹಲಿಯ ಭೂಗೋಳ ಚಳಿಗಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಗಾಳಿ ಚಲನೆ ತಗ್ಗುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಗಾಳಿ ಹೊರಹೋಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.
ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯ ಒಳಗೆ ಸೇರಿ ಬಲೆಯಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಹೊಗೆ, ಧೂಳು, ಕೈಗಾರಿಕಾ ಕಸ—ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ಗಾಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಿಲುಕಿಹೋಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಬೇರೆ ನಗರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಗಾಳಿ ಚಲನೆ ಇರುವುದರಿಂದ ಹೊಗೆ ವಾತಾವರಣದಿಂದ ಹೊರಹೊಮ್ಮುತ್ತದೆ.
2. ವಾಹನ ನಿಯಂತ್ರಣ ಯಾಕೆ ಕಷ್ಟ?
- ಖಾಸಗಿ ವಾಹನಗಳಿಗೆ ಜನ ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅವಲಂಬಿತರಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ
- ಬಸ್/ಮೆಟ್ರೋ ಸಾಕಾಗುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ
- Odd-Even ತಾತ್ಕಾಲಿಕ
- NCR ನಿಂದ ಲಕ್ಷಾಂತರ ಗಾಡಿಗಳು ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಸುತ್ತವೆ
- ಪರಿಹಾರ:
- ಎರಡನೇ/ಮೂರನೇ ಕಾರಿಗೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ತೆರಿಗೆ
- ಕಾರ್ಪೂಲಿಂಗ್ ಕಡ್ಡಾಯ
- ಉತ್ತಮ ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕ ಸಾರಿಗೆ
- ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯ ಗಾಡಿಗಳ ಪ್ರವೇಶ ನಿಷೇಧ
3. ಪಂಜಾಬ್-ಹರಿಯಾಣದ ಬೆಂಕಿ (ಸ್ಟಬಲ್ ಬರ್ನಿಂಗ್)
ಬೆಳೆ ಕಟಾವು ನಂತರ ಹೊಲಗಳಿಗೆ ಬೆಂಕಿ ಹಚ್ಚುವ ಕ್ರಮ ದೆಹಲಿಗೆ ನೇರ ಹೊಗೆ ತರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಹೊಗೆ ನೇರವಾಗಿ ದೆಹಲಿಗೆ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ.
ಹೋಗುವ ದಾರಿ ಇಲ್ಲ, ಹೊರಹೋಗುವ ಗಾಳಿ ಇಲ್ಲ.
ಇದು ರೈತರ ದೌರ್ಬಲ್ಯದ ಫಲ, ತಪ್ಪಲ್ಲ. ಸರ್ಕಾರಗಳು ಸಹಕಾರದಿಂದ ಸಮರ್ಥ ಪರಿಹಾರ ನೀಡಬೇಕಿತ್ತು—ಆದರೆ ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಜಗಳಗಳಿಂದ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆ ಮುಂದುವರಿಯುತ್ತಿದೆ.
4. ಕೈಗಾರಿಕೆಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ನಿಯಮಗಳ ಸಡಿಲಿಕೆ
ದೆಹಲಿಯ ಸುತ್ತಮುತ್ತ ಇರುವ ಕೆಲವು ಕೈಗಾರಿಕೆಗಳು ನಿಯಮಗಳನ್ನು ಉಲ್ಲಂಘಿಸುವುದನ್ನು ಸರ್ಕಾರಗಳು ವರ್ಷಗಟ್ಟಲೆ ನೋಡುತ್ತಲೇ ಇವೆ.
ಮಾನವ ಜೀವಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಕೈಗಾರಿಕಾ ಲಾಬಿ ದೊಡ್ಡದಾಗಿರುವುದು ಒಂದು ಕಹಿ ಸತ್ಯ.
5. ರಾಜಕೀಯದ ‘ದೂರು ಆಟ’
ಕೇಂದ್ರ → ರಾಜ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ದೂರು
ರಾಜ್ಯ → ಕೇಂದ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ದೂರು
ಎರಡೂ → ಪಂಜಾಬ್ಗೆ ದೂರು
ಪಂಜಾಬ್ → ರೈತರಿಗೆ ದೂರು
ಈ ಮಧ್ಯೆ…
ದೆಹಲಿಯ ಜನರು ವಿಷ ಉಸಿರಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ.
6. ದೆಹಲಿ – ಬದುಕಿಗೆ ಕಂಟಕವಾದ ವಾಯು
ಶಾಲೆಗಳು ಮುಚ್ಚಬೇಕು, ವೃದ್ಧರು ಮನೆ ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಬರಬಾರದು, ಮತ್ತು ಏರ್ ಪ್ಯೂರಿಫೈಯರ್ ಇಲ್ಲದ ಮನೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಉಸಿರಾಟಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋರಾಡಬೇಕು.
ಇದು ಮಾನವೀಯ ದುರಂತ.
ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯವಲ್ಲ—ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಮತ್ತು ಆಡಳಿತದ ನಿರ್ಲಕ್ಷ್ಯದ ದುರಂತ.
