The Telangana Government has taken a major step towards improving the lives of workers by introducing a new Unified Wage Framework. This landmark decision significantly revises the minimum wages across the state, providing much-needed relief to the labour force amid rising living costs.
According to the new wage structure, the minimum monthly salary for workers will now range between ₹14,000 and ₹20,000, depending on their skill levels and the zone they work in. This is the first comprehensive revision after nearly 12 years, and it is expected to directly benefit over 1.11 crore workers across Telangana.
The revised wages have been divided into four skill categories — Unskilled, Semi-skilled, Skilled, and Highly Skilled — and further classified into three geographical zones for better fairness and implementation.
Zone-wise Minimum Monthly Wages:
Zone 1 (Municipal Corporations):
- Unskilled: ₹16,000
- Semi-skilled: ₹17,000
- Skilled: ₹18,500
- Highly Skilled: ₹20,000
Zone 2 (Municipalities):
- Unskilled: ₹15,000
- Semi-skilled: ₹16,000
- Skilled: ₹17,500
- Highly Skilled: ₹19,000
Zone 3 (Rural Areas):
- Unskilled: ₹14,000
- Semi-skilled: ₹15,000
- Skilled: ₹16,500
- Highly Skilled: ₹18,000
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, along with Labour Minister G. Vivek Venkatswamy, formally announced the new framework. The updated wages will come into effect from June 1, 2026.
This wage hike is seen as a progressive move by the Congress government to address the challenges faced by workers due to inflation, increasing house rents, and rising essential commodity prices. Labour unions and worker associations have welcomed the decision, calling it a long-overdue step that will improve the standard of living for lakhs of families.
The Unified Wage Framework aims to bring more transparency and uniformity in wage payments. It is expected to reduce exploitation of workers and encourage better productivity. Economists believe this revision will also boost local consumption and support small businesses in the state.
With this initiative, Telangana joins other progressive states that have periodically updated minimum wages to keep pace with economic changes. The government has urged all employers to strictly implement the new rates and warned of strict action against violations.
