Transgender persons have long remained one of the most marginalized communities in society, often facing social exclusion, limited job opportunities, and economic hardship. Many are forced into begging or other informal activities for survival due to a lack of acceptance and employment avenues. Recognizing these challenges, the Telangana government has taken a significant step toward empowering the community.
The state has launched a dedicated skill development programme for transgender individuals, offering training in areas such as drone piloting, hotel management, and driving. The initiative aims to equip them with practical skills, enabling financial independence and reducing their dependence on others. The core objective of the programme is to help transgender persons lead a dignified and self-reliant life.
State Minister for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Senior Citizens, and Transgender Persons, Adluri Lakshman Kumar, inaugurated the programme on Saturday. Speaking at the event, the minister said that the government is committed to addressing the long-standing social and economic challenges faced by the transgender community. He emphasized that several initiatives are being implemented to ensure they live with dignity and respect in society.
The minister also encouraged members of the transgender community to make the best use of the scheme, gain skills, and actively participate in the workforce. He highlighted that their contributions are valuable and that inclusive growth is essential for a progressive society.
This initiative marks an important step toward social inclusion, offering hope for a future where transgender individuals can live with equality, respect, and opportunity.
